Ramón Freixa restaurant, Madrid

Born in Castellfollit de Riubregós (Barcelona) in 1971, Ramon Freixa currently lives in Madrid, where he runs the Ramón Freixa Madrid Restaurant (holder of two Michelin stars).

He studied Hotel Management at the Sant Pol de Mar School of Hotel Management and Tourism (Barcelona).

In the early 1990s, he spent time in Belgium and France where he discovered the secrets of the most innovative cuisine at that time and the latest trends and techniques.

In 1994, when Ramon was back in Barcelona, his father gradually ensured that Ramon learnt everything there was to know in the kitchen at “El Racód’enFreixa”, as he spent time in all of the sections from the appetisers to the desserts.  In 1998, his father handed the restaurant over to him. He also wrote his book “El pa, l’oli I el vi”.

Ramon then set his sights on Madrid where he opened his restaurant, Ramón Freixa Madrid, which received its fights Michelin star just a few months later and the second in 2010. In 2011, Ramon Freixa Madrid was named the Best Restaurant of Spain in Madrid Fusión and awarded Three Suns in the Repsol Guide. In 2012, he obtained Grand Chef Relais & Châteaux award, also for his restaurant in Madrid, and opened Erre, another restaurant, in Cartagena de Indias (Colombia). In 2013, Ramón Freixa Madrid was named as the “Best Restaurant of the Year” by the Catalan Academy of Gastronomy.

His latest book is “Secuencias”.
