Sant Pau restaurant  (Sant Pol de Mar)

Born in Sant Pol de Mar into a family of farmers and shopkeepers, after graduating in Business Studies she joined the family business, a food store. After her marriage to Toni Balam, she opened her restaurant, Sant Pau. First star in 1991; she represented Catalan cuisine at the Expo in Seville; Prize for Best Chef from the LMG guide; second Michelin Star in 1996; National Prize for Gastronomy 1998; top marks in all the guides… She has written several books: “Deu anys de cuina al Sant Pau”, “Cocinar para ser feliz”, “Un any amb Carme Ruscalleda” or “Cuina a casa amb Carme Ruscalleda”.

 

With two Nadal Gastronomy Prizes, all kinds of awards and a successful restaurant in Tokyo, Carme was enthroned with a third Michelin star in 2005.

She was awarded the 1st Turespaña Prize for Creativity and Innovation 2010; she has won awards from chambers of commerce in Barcelona, Manhattan and India with the IWEC 2010-International Women Entrepreneurial Challenge; she has taken part as a speaker at Harvard University in science and cooking congresses organised by the Alícia Foundation; in 2011 she took part in Lyon, together with all the three-star winners in the world, in the dinner-tribute to Bocusse…

In 2012 she received the Silver Medal “For Merit in Work” awarded by the Ministry of Employment and Immigration. She is a “Free woman of Sant Pol de Mar. In 2013 she was awarded the Gold Medal by the Parliament of Catalonia.

She has three Michelin stars at Sant Pol, two at Moments in Barcelona (where she also deals with all the restaurant business) and two in Tokyo.
